We all are in contact of large multi storey buildings in some way either we work in them or live in them but did you know the carbon footprint generated by a single metro-city in averageis more than 80 Metric Tonnes. The real question is what can we do about it?

First thing is know that even a small contribution can cause a bigger change. So even if a house starts generating less carbon footprint than it did before, it would be a huge step. If you think about it, a group of buildings is called a city. What do you call a building that generates less carbon footprint comparing to others; A Green Infrastructure! Such infrastructures are eco-friendly in every way and add to sustainability.

What does generating carbon footprint mean?Whatever activities are going on in a area, say a buildingthat generate carbon dioxide (which accounts for 98% of human activities) is called a carbon footprint of that particular area. We can reduce it by generating less waste, using renewable sources of energy, increasing oxygen input into atmosphere by planting tress, plants in our surroundings. A Green Infrastructure uses renewable resources for its energy needs, has a good water recycling system and has optimum plants in surrounding. More the no of green infrastructures, less will be the carbon footprint generated!Singapore is an ideal example of sustainability due to green infrastructures. Its carbon footprint is only 50 Metric Tonnes which is very less compared for adeveloped country.

If we start by each person generating less carbon footprint by using sustainable products, generating less waste and using renewable sources of energy, a change will happen, slowly but steadily! It will pave a way for a sustainable lifestyle.
